You may work to create your brand and its identity but it’s the overall perception and interaction that your customers and clients have with your business, product or service that shapes your brand reputation.
The foundation for a strong brand may include all the elements above that we listed but as we are dealing with humans, we know that a brand needs to portray your values and your personality and emotionally connect with your customers.
Let’s break the items down!
Logo and visual
The logo, colours, fonts and design style create that visual first impressions. The logo and visual assets give your prospective clients and customers the first look at who you are.
Voice and tone
This is how your audience thinks you are talking to them. It could be the voice and tone of how your external facing marketing materials are written, such as your website content, social posts etc.
Do you want to be portrayed as professional, friendly, funny or formal.
Vision and Mission
You don’t need a 50 page strategic plan to determine your vision and your mission. These are simply, what your business stands for.
For example, at Shout by Design, our vision is:
“We believe that every business has a story worth telling. It is that story, we want to help you share, authentically, to create lasting connections.”
Our mission, or in our case we refer to it as our purpose is:
“Through active listening and collaboration, we develop a deep understanding of your business to craft strategies and campaigns that reflect your story.”
Customer experience
Your customer or client experience is an integral part of your brands reputation. Their overall experience can be something as simple as if you are an online business was it easy to order, did they receive their order packaged well. If you are a service business, did they receive the quote in a timely manner, was it easy to understand and of course was the service delivered effectively.
It is also important to remember that even if things do not go to plan and someone may have a complaint, the customer experience is crucial in this step too. Afterall, if someone was unhappy with your service or product and voices this to you or your staff and nothing is done, they will remain disgruntled and likely not recommend you to their friends.
As we will live in a strong online world where consumers frequently go to online platforms to research and recommend services, it is vital to keep good communications and engagement on all topics.
To pull this all together you build your brand, and your clients or customers can make or break your reputation.
A strong and reputable brand makes your business memorable, builds trust and can help you stand out in a crowded marketplace.
The goal is to not just be seen, but to be known, trusted and remembered.
